In Spain there is approximately 1 bar for every 130 inhabitants. Spanish love to socialize, sit and talk with our friends, family and acquaintances no matter what time or day of the week and for, as we say here, "fix the world" with a drink in our hands. It is logical that after practicing this tradition for centuries, we have perfected this type of establishment, reaching a high degree of professionalism. Madrid, as the capital of the country, couldn’t stay behind, and stands as a worthy representation, as to what "bar culture" means. Here is a brief selection of some of the most interesting bars in the city.

Círculo de Bellas Artes Rooftop Terrace

An excellent bar and restaurant located in one of the most emblematic buildings in Madrid, with the best views of the city as a backdrop, can you ask for more? Yes, an interesting schedule of temporary exhibitions and cultural activities finish up this great choice.

Jardín Secreto (Salvador Bachiller)

In one of the most commercial streets of the city, above a reputable retailer, you’ll find this spectacular teahouse with a fairytale atmosphere. As an oasis of tranquility amid the traffic and bustle, at the Secret Garden clocks stop and soul relaxes. Cocktails, coffees, wines, sweets and a selection of teas from around the world will delight each one of its visitors.

Gau & Café

Located in the heart of Madrid’s most multiracial neighborhood, on the roof of an eighteenth century religious school turned into one of the headquarters of the National University of Distance Education, this amazing bar offers, besides a unique environment, an extensive menu combining Spanish specialties with other dishes from African cuisine. To attend the sunset over the rooftops of Lavapies with a Mojito in your hands is something that will not be easily forgotten.

Matute 12

In the heart of Barrio de las Letras, in an old record store located in the basement of one of the few Art Deco buildings that exist in Madrid, we find this premises of 400 square meters divided into three distinct areas: a restaurant with American, Arab and Iberian  specialties, a bar with a large sofa area where you can taste sake or mezcal, and a secret crypt "Le Cabine" for customers who want to opt for something more exclusive.

La Ardosa

La Ardosa is one of the only two wineries left in Madrid, from a chain of 30, that existed in the late nineteenth century. More than 100 years later, without having lost any of its character, La Ardosa still remains one of madrilians favorite bars, this time thanks to its wide range of beers of excellent quality, and its award-winning spanish omelette.

Official School of Doctors Coffe shop

Just opposite the Reina Sofia Museum, it’s the old Hospital of La Pasión, home today of the Official College of Physicians of Madrid. Once inside, walking through long corridors and large rooms, you reach a cozy cafeteria of large windows and marble tables where you can taste an excellent coffee in an authentic nineteenth-century atmosphere.

Ultramarinos Quintín

A new dining option in the very chic neighborhood of Salamanca. Ultramarinos Quintín is not just a bar, but also a gourmet products grocery and a restaurant. All this in an atmosphere of exclusivity and sophistication.

The Roof. Hotel ME

At Santa Ana square, in Barrio de las Letras, a flashy white building of striking architecture caughts our attention. The ride in a private elevator to the terrace leads to one of the most exclusive urban shelters across Madrid: The Roof, where you can enjoy a spectacular view of the city.
